Philippinite is a type of tektite, a natural glass formed by the intense heat and pressure of a meteorite impact approximately 790,000 to 800,000 years ago. It belongs to the Australasian strewn field and is found only in the Philippines, making it rarer than Indochinite due to its limited geographic origin.
Unlike the smoother splash form shapes of many Indochinites, Philippinites often show more rugged, deeply textured surfaces. Commonly appearing as spheres, discs, or classic button like forms—shaped as molten material cooled during ejection and flight through the atmosphere.
