Locality: Nesmen, Czech Republic.

Condition: Intact with one small reflection around 4 x 1 mm. Clearly shown in the second to last image. In the final image, the yellow arrow points directly to it from a normal viewing angle.
This piece is a natural primary splash form, best described as a flattened oval disk to ellipsoid. That means the main body still keeps one of the original rounded forms Moldavite can take as molten impact glass cools in flight. The deep ridges and grooves are surface sculpture. They are not the main shape of the piece. They formed later through natural chemical etching, corrosion and weathering after the glass had already formed.
Moldavite is a rare natural glass formed about 15 million years ago when a meteorite struck the Nördlinger Ries in Germany. The heat from the impact melted the surface rock and sent it into the sky where it cooled as it fell back to earth as green tektite.
