Libyan Desert Glass is one of the most powerful impactites I work with. Found only in the Great Sand Sea of western Egypt and eastern Libya, it was formed around 28.5 million years ago when the heat of a meteor impact fused desert sand into natural golden glass.
It is not a tektite but a pure desert-born impact glass, extremely high in silica. Colours range from soft lemon to deep honey, with natural textures carved by desert winds over millions of years.
